Letters to the Emperor

Have you ever been upright?

I’ve only known you in reverse.

I see the shape of who you are, but your colours are all wrong.

God of War, you think you’re noble? That divinity is your compass?

You chase your power with your cannons.

You try and take ours without guilt.

You could rip my heart right from my chest, but I’ll never surrender to your shallow will.

When will you love us once again?

Your cosmic blueprint: the protector.

Keep us safe from chaos and cruelty.

Yet you subvert everyone’s safety,

your order’s price only we pay.

Why don’t you see us as your children?

We long to feel safe in your vision.

Your twisted heart, in need of tuning,

unceasingly singing battle cries.

You’re a plague upon this world

Your will disfigured by your hunger

your claim on power is corrupt.

You’ll never get the treasure

our dowry only comes with love.

What will you do when it’s all over?

Where will you rule? Who are your subjects?

Place your throne upon our gravestones.

You cannot rule an empty Earth.
